Six Week Introductory Class
In this introductory course to glassblowing, students will learn the basics of manipulating hot glass. We will build a foundation that focuses on a team approach to glassblowing, with an emphasis on safety, proper tool use, basic techniques, and materials. Students will learn to gather molten glass from the furnace and shape it by using specialized tools, heat, and gravity. Students will create paperweights and basic sculptural forms in solid glass before advancing to blown techniques to create whimsical forms and traditional glass shapes.
By the end of the course students will have a number of small completed works and a solid understanding of basic glass techniques. Students may wish to take this class a second time in order to continue to develop and refine basic skills before moving on to Glassblowing II. Each time you take it, you will gain confidence and skill as your passion for glass grows.
