Glass is a thing in disguise, an actor, is not solid at all, but a liquidan old sheet of glass will not only take on a royal and purplish tinge but will reveal its true liquid nature by having grown fatter at the bottom and thinner at the top, and it is invisible, solid, in short a joyous and paradoxical thing, as good a material as any to build a life from. -Carey, Peter Oscar and Lucinda, ch.32,'Prince Rupert's Drops'.

"The potter's thumb and finger deftly pressing the soft mass whirling on his wheel as it yielded to his touch, the bulbous glass at the end of the slender pipe as the breath of the glass blower and his deft turning decided its shape- its fate fascinated me. Something was being born." - Frank Lloyd Wright

Flame Working
Options

We offer two different 3 hour flame working classes.

Beginning (Soft Glass) Flame-Working Workshop:

Description:

This 3-hour class will teach you how to safely melt glass “soft glass” into decorative beads in front of an open torch!  We will learn about safety, equipment, melting glass, making beads in many different shapes, decorating the beads, and cleaning the beads. Students are encouraged to take this class multiple times before moving on to the intermediate class.

Instructor: Mitch Veenstra

The class cost is $150 per person, and includes supplies.

Introduction to Flame Working with Borosilicate Glass:

Students will be introduced to some of the basic techniques that will give them the foundation necessary to begin on the amazing journey of flame-worked glass. After learning how to create a gather of glass, and then transferring the gather to another rod (creating a punty), students will then utilize these skills to make a mushroom marble. Once students are comfortable with this technique we will then explore a slightly more advanced marble/pendant technique called a base head. This pattern technique resembles craters on the moon! These are just two marbles/pendants students will be able to take home.

Instructor: Darron Hensley

The class cost is $150 per person, and includes supplies.

Each class has a maximum of 3 students.
